When the new £12.9 billion Restart scheme was announced late last year as part of the Government’s Plan for Jobs, it was a welcome lifeline for those who have been significantly impacted by the pandemic, particularly those who have been out of work for a sustained period.
The scheme promises to break down barriers to employment and will be commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), with providers invited to bid for the scheme.
There is a clear focus as part of the DWP contracting framework for providers to demonstrate how they are delivering a SMART action plan within 8 weeks of referral and providing each individual learner with a diagnostic assessment within 8 weeks of referral, with ongoing updates.
